The grand finale of the season will be a treat for the senses. For this concert, we will be celebrating some of the most enduring and iconic American compositions of the 20th century.
The orchestra opens with Concert Overture no. 2, by Florence Price, the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer. Pianist Diego Caetano, who has performed in concert halls around the world, will join the WSO on stage for the second piece. Caetano is a University of Wyoming alumni and former Casper College Instructor. Caetano will be treating us to a performance of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, an enduring Jazz Age classic that you may recognize from films such as Manhattan (‘79) and Fantasia 2000 (‘99).
Rounding out this celebratory ending to the season will be a performance of Aaron Copland’s ballet Rodeo. As Rodeo is performed by the symphony, images of a series of artworks commissioned by the WSO will be projected on the walls of the auditorium. These visuals will guide the audience through the ballet’s heartwarming story of a cowgirl searching for love and acceptance.
